How To Make LOTS Of Money As A Teenager

Monday 29 May 2017

There's one thing that I like to think I have some experience and knowledge in, and that is making money as a teenager. Some of you may know, and some of you may not know, but I am 15, and in the UK, you can't really get a job at 15 years old. I mean, sure, you can get a job at a hairdressers making £3-£4 an hour or as a waitress in a small local cafe, but who really wants to do that!

Now, here's a little backstory for you. At 11 years old I used to "make" and sell lip balms to my peers at school and to the people on my street. I probably wasn't actually making any money but I thought I was, as I didn't actually buy the supplies in the first place, my lovely mother did.
So, we'd go out to the Body Shop, she'd buy me some of the lip balms in the pots, we'd then go to Boots and buy some Vaseline and then come home. Once I was home, I would melt the Body Shop lip balm, melt the Vaseline. Which made, a diluted version of the Body Shop's lip balm. (if that all just made sense?!)

Note- I'm sure I must've said 'lip balm' about a hundred times in that backstory!

So technically, I wasn't actually making anything, just mixing. I used to make my own labels and stick them on the top and then sell them for about £2 a pot- and when you add up all the £2's, it came to a lot of money!

Even back when I was 11 I would try and sell things so, you can too!

Here is, Nadia's many ways to make money as a tween/teen:

1. Make lip balms..
This time, when I say 'make', I actually mean 'make'. There are so many tutorials on how to make lip balms online. You can watch the videos, get your ingredients and pots in bulk off eBay and youre ready to go! Just make sure to price up how much it costs you to make each individual lip balm, and then add £0.50 to £1 and sell them so you've made a profit!
Here's a extra tip, you can sell chocolate, sweets or stationary to people at school as well, they always want it!

2. Depop..
I am NOT sponsored by Depop
But, hey you never know, Depop if you're reading, you can sponsor me! (jokes)

I cant even begin to tell you, how much I rave about Depop- love would be an understatement. I started selling my makeup on Depop that I didn't want or use and within the first day, someone bought my mini Benefit Hoola bronzer. I then started selling some clothes and shoes and even a Mulberry handbag I'd saved up and bought but then instantly regretted buying straight after.

All you have to do is sign up (it's free) and start selling! But when you've sold something, Depop take a small fee- a bit like eBay does.
The reason I prefer Depop to eBay is that it's way more straight forward and is better for selling smaller items (such as makeup) and the communities of people on Depop are very friendly so, I'd definitely recommend it. I've made over £500 (no joke) within 5 months on Depop, it's grrreat!

3. Giving a service to someone you know..
If you're friends with someone needing a makeover or you know someone who might want a photo shoot for their Instagram or Blog, then give that service to them (fore a fee of course!). You could use your makeup and charge £15-£20 for a makeover, instantly more money, and most likely it'll be doing something that you love t do.

4. Scouting models..
I know what you're thinking, 'Nadia, I am a teenager, I cant be a professional model scouter!'
At school there's bound to be at least one person who you think is pretty enough to be a model. You could start up a very mini business in trying to help those girls (or boys!) become models, if they want to.
All you need to do is find out the different agencies online that you can send applications to and then find your model at school or if it's someone you know. Talk to them about becoming a model, ask them for £2-£5 for helping them to apply and then take the photos, help them with their application and send it in! You never know, you could've just scouted one of the next upcoming teenage celebrity models!

Tip- you can always ask them for a percentage of their salary if they get into the agency.

5. Collab with a brand..
If you have a large social media following, ask them if they want you do advertise or review their product and you can get payed for it!

6. Ask family or friends if they have anything that needs selling..
If a friend or family member has something that they need selling- you could sell it for them and take a small fee. If you're good at fixing things, you could ask people for broken items and fix it up and then sell and you can either have all the money or just take a small fee.

Remember! Whenever you're selling things, always add some money on top of how much it cost you- so that you can make a profit.

Someone you know might have a camera that needs fixing. You could fix it and sell it for them.
Thank you for reading, I have a lot more where these came from so if you want more ways of making money, just leave a comment and I'll do it!

From your online best friend,

Nadia xoxo
